Job Summary: The Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and supporting month?end and year?end close processes. This role ensures timely and accurate recording of financial transactions, prepares reconciliations, may assist with financial statement preparation, and supports audit and tax activities. Responsibilities may also include payroll processing or payroll-related accounting. Strong attention to detail, knowledge of GAAP, and the ability to analyze financial data are essential. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Serve as the primary point of contact for tax audits, inquiries, and external authorities, ensuring timely and accurate responses. Monitor and update the compliance calendar monthly to ensure timely and accurate tax filings. Perform regular product code (GCID) audits to verify proper tax classifications. Prepare, review, and file required tax reports, including: Tax Filings including property tax, telecom tax filings (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual) and, USAC 499 filings (quarterly and annual) Perform month?end and year?end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and account reconciliations. Maintain and monitor the general ledger to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly, investigating and resolving discrepancies. Assist with payroll processing and payroll-related accounting, including payroll entries, reconciliations, and ensuring proper classification of labor costs. Support maintenance of the chart of accounts and assist with system updates or enhancements affecting general ledger structure. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and regulatory requirements by maintaining accurate financial records and supporting required filings. Assist internal and external auditors and tax consultants by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to inquiries. Document and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls, recommending and implementing improvements where appropriate. Monitor and analyze transactions impacting revenue, expenses, prepaid items, and deferrals to ensure correct recognition. Collaborate with AP, AR, payroll, and operational teams to resolve accounting issues and improve processes. Maintain current knowledge of accounting standards and best practices through ongoing professional development. Be extremely organized, flexible, able to multi-task, work independently and as a team member. Understand and apply accounting standards and guidelines. Ability to: Think analytically and be a problem solver. Be extremely accurate and detail oriented. Communicate, both in writing and speaking, with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a courteous and professional manner. Work completely and accurately under time constraints and deadlines. Work in a fast pace environment and prioritize multiple work assignments. Maintain confidentiality of records. Provide excellent customer service. Work in a safe and effective manner. Create and support a team environment. Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to the following education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: Bachelors’ degree in accounting, or related field; 5 years of related work experience, CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
