Job Description:

The Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana at The University of Montana in Missoula is seeking an ABFM-certified family physician for our community based dually accredited program. Our program matriculated its first class in 2013, which graduated in Spring 2016. With the investment of a dedicated faculty, excellent resident classes from all over the U.S., and a skilled support staff, we have developed a program that is increasingly recognized for its quality and innovation. Our success is based in a focus on our Mission and on a culture of collegiality between residents and faculty, open communication, and empowerment of everyone involved to actively contribute and make FMRWM the best possible place to become a Family Medicine physician. This position is located in Missoula, a cosmopolitan Rocky Mountain community of approximately 80,000, often singled out in national publications for its quality of life. The surrounding areas offer abundant recreational options, including hiking, biking, skiing, hunting, rafting, fly-fishing, and bird-watching. Nearby Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park complement a thriving intellectual atmosphere. Applicants must possess or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Montana. Applicants must demonstrate experience and competence in teaching and patient care. This is a 1.0 FTE position. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.--Job Responsibilities: Applicant will be a core member of the Residency Teaching Faculty: teaches residents, supervises residents and students in the provision of patient care, provides direct patient care in the inpatient and outpatient setting, participates in scholarly activity, and serves as leader and role model for residents. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other faculty members to help develop and create a high quality Family Medicine Residency Program.Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated medical knowledge and the ability to apply it in the care of patients
  • Maintenance, practical use, and dissemination of evidence based medical knowledge
  • Capable didactics presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality care to all age groups in the Family Medicine Center, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other sites.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely and effectively perform common procedures
  • Maintains an active, Family Medicine Center-based clinical practice
  • Able to fulfill call responsibilities
  • Create and regularly update a goal-oriented plan for personal, professional and practice improvement
  • Acts as a consistent role model for residents
  • Capably teach in one-to-one and small group settings
  • Precept efficiently and effectively
  • Effectively demonstrate and teach patient care skills
  • Effectively demonstrate and teach procedural skills
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to community issues and needs. Work with community practitioners for the purpose of educational support and community relations.
  • Demonstrate ability to assist in coordination of resident activities in other Montana communities.Required Qualifications: MD/DO degree, Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited residency in Family Medicine, Montana Medical License, DEA License, Board Certified in Family Medicine. Must obtain medical staff privileges at Community Medical Center and St. Patrick Hospital and Partnership Health Center.Preferred Qualifications: Experience in sports medicine, musculoskeletal medicine or Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) preferred. Candidates from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine preferred. Experience in clinic leadership and advanced primary care models preferred. Experience in family medicine teaching/practice preferred. Experience with rural/underserved patient populations.The successful candidate will become an employee of The University of Montana with an annual salary based on experience and a full benefits package.
