Position Summary:
Assist in the coordination of planning, implementing, and
evaluating nursing care in the neonatal units in a timely and
accurate manner while meeting individual physical, psychosocial,
and educational needs of patients and families. Assess and maintain
unit-specific competency through the organization and coordination
of orientation, competency review and new education.
Position Requirements:
Formal Education / Training:
1. Licensed by the State of Tennessee.
2. Earned a nursing diploma or degree from a college or
university.
3. Attains certification/course requirements for specialty within
defined time frame per WMC policy
4. At least three years neonatal care experience in an acute care
facility.
6. Demonstrates leadership abilities and positive communication
skills.
Workplace Experience:
Patient Care Delivery in NICU and Nursery
Equipment and Skills Training:
Standard patient care equipment for services provided. The ability
to work well under pressure, to function dependently and
independently and to be flexible in applying basic nursing
knowledge to a variety of setting. Equipment: Network Computer
System, Pneumatic Tube System, Epidural Catheter Pumps, Omnicell
Medication System; Telemetry; Safe Patient Handling Equipment; IV
Pumps; PCA Pumps; AT&T Language line.
Physical Environment:
A neonatal unit with patient population neonate to less than 6
months old.
Physical Effort:
1. Able to communicate in English verbally and legibly.
2. Able to stand/work for up to twelve hours a day.
3. Able to lift with assistance up to 250 lbs.
Key Results:
Assists in organizing, directing, developing policies, and
administering services in order to provide the level of care
required by current medical and nursing standards.
Maintains continuing quality assessment and improvement of patient
care delivery and patient safety activities. Collaborates in
developing, implementing, reviewing, revising, and monitoring
performance improvement activities.
Assists with the coordination of the employee selection process,
training, and staff development, work assignments, performance
competencies, and provides feedback for evaluations.
Coordinates staffing to insure maximum effectiveness of funds
expended from approved departmental budgets.
Participates with other health care teams to coordinate compliance
with regulatory agencies.
Performs a comprehensive assessment on all patients within the
appropriate time of admission utilizing skills of observation,
communication and examination; including data obtained from
patient, family and other members of the healthcare team.
Plans the patient's care on an individual basis, identifying
problems/needs, nursing diagnosis, standards of care/practice,
interventions consistent with identified problems and attainable
outcomes.
Functions independently with treatments, procedures and equipment
appropriate to areas evidence by adherence to policy, procedure and
competency based assessment and no pattern or trend of problem.
Handles, transports, stores, prepares, administers
medications/solutions safely and in accordance with hospital and
departmental policies and procedures.
Reassess patient's condition, evaluate patient response and modify
plan of care accordingly and in a timely manner.
Documents accurately and timely.
Insures that professional relationships are maintained with
patients, their families and friends, clergy, physicians, and other
interested groups in the community.
Maintains open and effective communication with leadership to
promote and maintain optimal patient safety and maximize
operational efficiencies.
