Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Director, Population Health Business Intelligence to our location in Renton, WA.

We are seeking a Director, Population Health Business Intelligence to be responsible for ensuring operations, regional, and division leaders have the data they need to advance population health and health equity strategies and initiatives by understanding the populations we serve, utilizing evidence based approaches and data science, incorporating front-line operational knowledge, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and strategies. This role is critical in supporting the division's commitment to being a catalyst for population health, health equity, care model development, cross discipline and continuum care coordination, and data driven decision making.

This position fills a key role as a strategic partner to regions and system partners in providing data and analytic solutions to enable better care management, drive change, and inform decision making regarding programs and initiatives. This position manages both direct and virtual teams from concept phase through implementation, flexibly responding to needs and enhancing the internal capability within the organization to develop and drive change, facilitate alignment, and demonstrate return on population health programs and initiatives. The position requires superior organizational and communication skills, and an ability to organize activities and move initiatives forward in an ambiguous environment.

This leader is responsible for coordination of various sources of operational and financial market data to provide sophisticated analyses and compelling data visualization tools for assessments of opportunities and providing strategic direction to regional and system leaders. This role is a hands-on position responsible for both leadership and completing analytic and reporting projects. The person in this role will possess business, strategic, analytic acumen as well as technical expertise.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

Strategic:

Proactively guide Business Intelligence projects encouraging others to see the big picture through the lens of population health and health equity.

Advocate for data driven solutions and catalyze change with system and regional partners.

Sets strategic objectives, priorities, and direction for the team in conjunction with other ECMC department leaders.

Helps teams see what is possible and what could be, evaluates possibilities, encourages others to think outside the box, and helps teams establish a clear vision.

Sets operational tactics based on division strategic objectives.

Balance system, region, and department requests and needs and requests for information.

Management:

Provides management oversight to staff. This includes: hiring new staff, quarterly/annual performance meetings, day to day interaction to set priorities, and assistance with professional development of staff in the department.

Emphasis placed on career development planning with each employee.

Mentor, educate, assist with analytic and data visualization design, and peer review business partner projects.

Responsible for the ongoing development and revision of performance standards for all job categories in department(s).

Oversees managers and staff to manage to balance both region wide reporting & analytics needs and system office requests for information.

Collaborate with system level analytic and data departments to ensure collaboration across teams, avoid duplication of development offerings, and guiding caregivers to the most appropriate PSJH analytic resource to meet their needs.

Direct a team of diversely skilled analytics experts to grow and develop these caregivers with the expectation of excellence and customer service.

Operational:

Responsible for vetting and developing reporting and analytics needs with region and system partners.

Develop and maintain a project reporting prioritization process for determining deployment of reporting & analytics resources and manage the volume, resolution, and management of analytic and reporting requests.

Apprise VP of projects and requests weekly for prioritization, strategy, and design input.

Train system internal partners, leaders, and super users on data analytic reports, dashboards, and tools. Assistance in regional training may be requested at times.

Review survey and feedback from regions / service areas. Develop a goals, KPIs, and a plan with VP. Implement plan.

Translate complex quantitative information into presentations and reports that are easily understood. Summarize and report key analytic findings as required.

Lead the team in developing new reporting, analytic, and visualization self-service tools.

Balance self-service product development with delivering ad hoc analyses and externally or internally sourced data.

Partners closely with the CM4PH Strategic Partnerships & Initiatives Team to facilitate bi-directional collaboration. The Director of Business Intelligence (BI) will share data and analytics strategy, regional and service area insights, successes, and concerns with the Partnership Team and use this relationship to share information and escalate issues to regional leaders. The Partnership Team will share information from region, system, and community partners with the Director of Analytics that may impact direction and or help provide leadership and system office vision. The Analytics and Reporting team will provide analytics and reporting solutions to meet Partnership needs.

Partners closely with the CM4PH Practice Optimization team to implement dashboards and analytics solutions in support of local care management efforts. The Practice Optimization team will provide analytic and data visualization solutions to regional partners small to medium in scope and/or complexity. The BI team will provide analytic and data visualization solutions to regional partners that are medium to large in scope and/or complexity. The Practice Optimization team will share regional service area requests, scope projects, draft business requirements, and serve as project managers for all regional/service area requests. The BI team will deliver solutions to meet the needs of the regions in collaboration with the Practice Optimization team.

Partners closely with the CPMPH Advanced Analytics and Data Science (AADS) team. The Director of BI will draft business requirements on behalf of the department and/or regional partners for the development of new data elements and provide guidance during development. The Director of AADS will provide research and data science support to Dir of BI. The Dir of BI will work closely with the Dir of AADS to implement evidence based solutions.

Partners closely with the Vice President of Analytics and Practice Optimization to strategically move Population Health Analytics to the next level. VP will provide goals, projects, and high level business requirements to the Director of BI. The Director will keep the VP apprised of completed and pipeline requests and advise the VP on future direction and needs. VP and Director will review high priority and system requests and priorities, understanding the cross discipline and continuum impact and strategy, and design solutions.

Serves as key member of CM4PH core team and works to help ensure departmental alignment across all CM4PH domains: care management interactions, care management pathways, data and analytics, payer-provider relationships, community partnership, and continuous improvement.

Performs other duties and special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Analytics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Administration, Health Administration, Public Health, Public Administration, or related discipline or equivalent experience

8 years of progressively increasing responsibility in management level (project and/or people) experience with specific data management, analytics, data science, platform development, or analytics program management experience.

years advanced experience working with healthcare data and healthcare operations.

3 years Population Health and/or Health Equity experience.

years Data Visualization and Reporting Tools: Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, or other similar software

years Analytics Tools: Databricks, Snowflake, Synapse, Alteryx, Tableau, MicroStrategy, or other similar software

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

Master's Degree in Data Science, Analytics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Administration, Health Administration, Public Health, Public Administration, or related discipline or equivalent experience

3 years Data Visualization and Reporting Tools: Power BI

3 years Analytics Tools: Databricks, Snowflake, Synapse
