We are currently seeking Civil Designer / Sanitarian in our Missoula, MT office. As Civil Designer / Sanitarian you will be responsible for assisting Project Managers with detailed engineering analysis in the preparation of engineering reports, permit applications and construction plan preparation. They will direct and train Civil Design Technicians and/or Civil Designers. They may have an emphasis in onsite water and wastewater design, inspection and operations of public water and wastewater systems and may also exercise project leadership in a technical or managerial way on certain projects or oversee portions of large projects.Some key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for supervised design of simple drawings using computer software, spreadsheets and hand calculations
  • Prepare DEQ Sanitation in Subdivision applications and local well and septic permit applications
  • Complete Site Evaluations and Percolation tests to determine suitability of onsite wastewater systems
  • Responsible for hydraulic calculations and specifications for pressurized onsite wastewater systems
  • Recognize potential project problems quickly and seek advice of Senior Staff or Project Manager
  • Perform routine sampling for public water supply systems, public wastewater systems, and monitoring wells associated with discharge permits
  • Conduct preliminary feasibility analysis for onsite water and wastewater needs for proposed residential and commercial developments
  • Complete permit applications for a variety of municipalities
  • The Civil Project Designer will direct and train Civil Design Technicians to assist them in completing reports, exhibits, plans and specifications and permit applications as required by the project's contractual scopeKey skills and abilities needed for the position are:
    • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, reports and drawings as related to onsite water and wastewater systems
    • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction
    • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs and AutoCAD Civil 3D software
    • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
    • Ability to interpret state and local design criteria and regulations and apply these to specific project needsEducation and experience requirements are:
      • Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in biology, microbiology, environmental science or related field with forty-five (45) quarter hours or thirty (30) semester hours in biological sciences and at least one (1) college level course in microbiology meeting Board of Sanitarian approval for licensure OR Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering
      • Minimum four years of qualifying experience
      • 2-6 years of experience in design, construction inspection and operation of onsite water and wastewater systems
      • OR
